What is the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)?

EFT (also referred to as 'Tapping') is an modern complementary therapy that has its origins in ancient Chinese medicine. EFT was developped from the original work of clinical psychologist Dr. Roger J Callahan who developed TFT (Thought Field Therapy) 20 years ago, and which is based on Acupressure Points combined with some simple Psychotherapy techniques. EFT - Emotional Freedom Technique #02EFT works on the body’s energy systems following the discovery that imbalances in your energy systems can have profound effects on personal psychology. It is particularly effective for conditions such as anxiety and stress where clients are often unable to pinpoint the exact reason for their unease, but they know what emotion(s) they are experiencing.

EFT uses gentle pressure (tapping with fingers) on meridian points, which are the body's electrical/energy pathways to change the way energy travels around the body. This clears negative thought patterns, anxieties and stresses in the body. EFT has been described as 'accupuncture without the needles'.

Although a gentle therapy, EFT works very deeply and swiftly - clients are usually amazed at the speed at which deep-rooted and life-long issues are cleared. Some people achieve relief within minutes of starting their EFT session, others may require a few sessions to really benefit.

Cathy is a Level 3 (Advanced) EFT Practitioner, and she is a member of AAMET (Association for the Advancement of Meridian and Energy Therapies). She was trained by Ann Ross, one of only 29 EFT Masters worldwide who were personally trained by Gary Craig.

What does it feel like?

The client remains fully clothed during a treatment and is seated upright in a comfortable chair. EFT is a very gentle technique, and light pressure (tapping) is applied to specific points on your hand, face and body while thinking of a specific issue or emotion - the tapping can be done either by the practitioner or by the client. If you feel uneasy about any aspect of the treatment, please discuss this with your practitoner ... there is usually a way to work round this.

The treatment should not be too emotinally painful, as there is no need for the practitioner to know in all the details of your problem. However, sometimes the client will experience a emotional release during their session, and we will tap to reduce and clear the intensitiy of this emotion

Within a few minutes of receiving the treatment, you will feel a greater sense of calm and, often for the first time in a long while, a fresh perspective and renewed optimism about your life. Clients often feed back to me that their friends/family comment that they 'look different' after a treatment : they have more of a sparkle about them.

Can I do EFT on my own?

Yes you can!! It is a very simple technique that can be used by anyone. At the end of your EFT session, we will discuss ways that you can use EFT on your own, as part of your daily life, to clear anxieties and negative emotions as and when they crop up. You will be given a simple-to-follow laminated sheet with clear instructions to help you remember what to do.
